Like all Kewalram Chanrai enterprises, PT Kewalram Indonesia, the subsidiary in Southeast Asia’s biggest country, had a humble beginning. Started in 1976 with a modest spinning mill in Bandung, Indonesia, it has grown to become a large textiles and embroidery production facility with state-of-the-art equipment, and fully integrated manufacturing and finishing lines in a single location.

Today, it has 2,200 employees, producing more than 24,000 tonnes of yarn annually, which are exported across the world. It also has an installed capacity of 60,000 spindles. With a product range that includes polyester, polyester viscose, optical white, cotton and cotton blends, and other specialty yarns, the company caters to the knitwear, weaving, apparel and industrial segments.

As testament to its manufacturing capabilities, it produces industrial materials such as fire-retardant yarns and, at the same time, delicate laces and fine needlework. For the latter, designing, embroidery, dyeing, finishing and stitching are all done under the same roof in the embroidery division, which started in 1979. The company also uses the most modern embroidery machines and computerised designing systems, making it a preferred supplier for the international haute couture boutiques.

One of its most significant achievements is in being presented the coveted President’s Award in Indonesia for its outstanding export performance. It was the first integrated textile unit to receive the ISO accreditation for quality management in Indonesia.
